The Whispers Saga Grimoire

One of the more fun things of being an author is creating lush and vivid worlds full of life. One of the more unfun things of being an author is trying to keep track of it all, ESPECIALLY when it’s an entire series! One way a lot of authors keep tabs on all things they craft is by creating their “book series bible”. A place where they keep all things written down from character descriptions, to locations, to family trees. You name it!

One of my very first beta readers that I did not know personally was someone I met on Fiverr who I paid to review my book. The biggest thing she swooned about was my worldbuilding and how “you must have backstory after backstory and entire lives in your mind to have built all this up” to which I told her she was correct. But being me, the spoonie I am who forgets a thought midsentence, had to keep track of it outside of my head.

Enter The Grimoire. named it Grimoire because of… well, magic… naturally =)

I crafted my series bible but I didn’t like the idea of only keeping it to myself. Especially when I too am a reader and nothing frustrates me more as a neurodivergent than forgetting some worldbuilding in a series that is actually relevant to the plot and having no way of figuring it out anywhere other than rereading the other books to find it. That takes time and energy. Neither of which I have a huge supply.

So what does that mean for me and for you?

I decided I wanted my “series bible” to be public to everyone. Within reason, of course.

So let me explain a bit about what I mean “within reason”.

On my website I am crafting an ever-growing and every-evolving Grimoire for the entirety of my series. OF COURSE that means that, at some point, there will be spoilers. Right? Right. It’s unavoidable to be honest. SO to combat that, I will not be changing or updating it until readers have had the chance to discover the information for themselves within the scope of whatever book has been released at the time. After that, if a new reader discovers the Grimoire and decides to pick up reading, there will be a fair warning that it does contain spoilers BUT I do know I can do drop down info… so maybe I can incorporate any spoilers under dropdowns where you have to click to reveal. Still working that out.

SO WHAT ALL WILL BE INCLUDED?

Good question! For now here is a list of everything that will be added to the Grimoire for book 1:

  • Character Bios of every character along with character art

  • Location bios - possibly some maps to help navigate the world (as I craft them - I have sloppy ones for myself but I want to create nice ones to share at some point)

  • Magic system breakdown - full understanding of each of the Witchrite Auras and what their sigils are, the meaning of them, etc.

  • Family Trees - as they become relevant

  • Pronunciation guides for those who need it

  • Definition guide for those who need it

  • Spell definitions (and pronunciations) so you know exactly when the spell does not just what it does on page

  • History of the various creatures you encounter in the books

  • Backstory - this one is limited but there will be some backstories shared in the Grimoire but eventually I plan to write and release novellas and short stories for all super important character/event backstories

  • Visuals of unique items, or symbols of things you will encounter

  • and more!

That sounds like a lot and it is! But I am so excited about it! I think it will be an amazing compendium for both myself and readers to keep track of. Of course, as I add things and as it grows, I will update everyone via my newsletter so you will always know when it evolves! So be sure to sign up for that here so you don’t miss an update! It’s free to sign up and free to read. You don’t even have to sign up to read it since I go through substack for my newsletter, you can just click “No Thanks” on the bottom where you would put your email and it will take you to my substack and you can read all my newsletters for free that way!

This will be a process and a LOT of work for me but it is honestly something I am super excited of and super proud of, even so far with what little is there. I cannot wait to watch it grow and evolve over time as things are revealed and discovered. I will be getting to work this week on slowly setting up all of the character bios. I am still in the process of working with my amazing Character artist to finish up the designs and sketches for all of them! What we have so far is amazing and I cannot wait to share it with you all!

For now, that is all I have to report on it! I hope you enjoy sifting through it as much as I love crafting it.

‘Til next time,

Happy Reading!
